A new theme and Widget Support

Site

Following the relaunch of the Wordpress Themes, I have been trying out a number of different themes. For the time being, I’ve settled on Scruffy.

What surprised me is that a number of these themes did not support Widgets. I can’t think why this is. Sidebar Widgets have been around for some time and enabling support for widgets couldn’t be easier - as these quick tips demonstrate:

So, given this, I decided to throw my oar in and help out by adding widget support to the second most popular (at the time of writing) theme - Dum-Dum. Here’s the download for those of you who want to jump straight it, simply replace your existing Dum-Dum theme with these files - dum-dum-widgetised

For the curious, the only modifications required were:

  • The addition of a Theme Functions (”functions.php”) file to register each sidebar - I decided to create one for each colour
  • Modification of the Sidebar (”sidebar.php”) file to include the sidebars

Enjoy…

    Hey Ian,

Thank you SO much for widgetizing this theme. I LOVE the look of Dum Dum, but being a complete neophyte to WordPress left me pretty strapped because I didn’t know how to add widget functionality.

    THANKS AGAIN!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!!
